 NY IMP

For all of you that have been following the NY imp loose. He still has not been captured, but was sited yesterday. She is going back today to search some more. It is warming up there by tomorrow, so hopefully he can be captured soon. He needs everyone's thoughts and prayers. NY had one hell of a bad storm/low temps the poor baby went thru.

the coati is mostly no worse for wear.  he is with a rehaber in NY.  he has frostbite to his feet, and is thin, but otherwise seems to be doing well.  he will see an exotics vet who is familiar and comfortable with treating coatis, sometime in the next few days.

Presenting Logan the NY survivor

This is our little guy who has survived one of the coldest and heaviest snowfall in a short time in NY of recent.  I have named him Logan; due to, his strength and will to survive. He is only a meer 14-16 weeks old.  The last 3rd of  his tail is missing (old injury and completely healed).  Upon arrival here at my clinic at 4:30am this morning all 4 of his badly frostbitten feet were necrotic (dead toes and 1/2 of feet),  and his nose tip badly frostbitten yet this little guy was still fighting for his life.  I have made the executive decision to surgically remove the dead toes and adjacent tissue and put heavy wraps on that will be changed daily.  He is recieving heavy duty pain meds and a combination of broad spectrum antibitotics and he will be staying with me until he is out of the woods or if I feel for his sake I have to make an even harder decision that what I had to make at 4:30 am this morning.  Please send Logan all your prayers and our fund needs your donations to help off set my costs for his supplies (which will be very expensive due to how severe his feet are).  You can send them to the fund or directly to the clinic.

thank you all so much and feel free to cross post. Logan needs everyone's thoughts and prayers right now.

ALL ASAP LOGAN NY COATI Prayer's help needed

Poor little guy!!!!! That is the most sad little creature I've seen in a long time. *snif* Is this the one that was loose in New York? How did he get to Doc Sandy?

Tanks so much Doc Sandy for taking such good care of him!!! What's his prognosis? Has anyone come forward to claim him? Do they know who his owners were? Was he even legal in New York? How long do you think he was loose?

Oh how sad!!!

Further Logan Update

Logan is sleeping soundly and what seems comfortably at this time.  It has taken 3 doses of each of his 2 pain meds over the last number of hours to get him comfortable.  He has had a great lunch and even felt food enough to tell me off about his meds.  Hopefully tomorrow I will have some turely positive info after doing his bandage change in the morning.

HI World It's me Logan

Okay, so it's really hard to do this with these darn boxing mitts on and trying hard to not get caught, but I wanted everyone to know that I am hanging in there and boy does Doc Sandy's daddy cook a mean pork roast.  I got a hold of some of that last night and I wouldn't let anyone take the piece back, it tasted darn good.  "mom for now" aka Doc Sandy knocked me out again this morning with this stinky stuff and she soaked my feet and she said she had to take a little more dead tissue off, but that my feet were looking remarkably good today.  She put new wraps on that are white, so I will do my best today to make them look really dirty, that is my secret mission, along with discovering what new foods she has for me that are really good (like that roast last night....)  Okay, gotta go, someone is coming and I am supposed to be sleeping.

Oh, hey guys mom was talking to Toni about a Bootie fund for me.  Toni is already designing special booties for me for the rest of my life to help me walk better; so, please help with my medical expenses and the bootie fund, I really do want to live.  10 days in the below freezing temperatures and the snow and ice in Central Park and no real food and I am still here fighting; so, please help me.

Hey out there, Logan here (NY survivor)

sssssh, I'm sneeking while Doc Sandy is out back making sure those silly dogs are behaving.  She thinks I'm sleeping soundly.  The Doc made me a great dinner tonight that included my favorite, GRAPES.....  She also gave me some great broiled turkey breast and boy was it good too.  I also had some great crunchy "pebbles" that she says are puppy food, boy are they good too.

I want everyone to know how much I appreciate their prayers and helping with me with the money for my long term care.  I am really trying to survive.  I hope there will be a day when I can sport new booties that have something called velcro and it makes it easier for Doc Sandy to treat my feet.  Doc Sandy was veryyyy sad earlier when she was teling me she is afraid for me and doesn't want me to hurt and so I have to take my vitamins that have my pain meds in them.

oops gotta shuffle off before I get caught.

Hey out there, Logan here (NY survivor)

Aww Logan honey. It won't be too long and you'll be able to be getting into the mischief you so much love to do. As soon as Miss Denise and Doc Sandy can get me some more pictures of you I will be making you a webpage to help your expenses and tell your story to those who might go get an exotic pet without knowing how to care for it. I have been posting your  messages in other groups so others will help you too. Just be a good little imp and try to do what Doc Sandy says so that you can go home to a wonderful home for you. What happened to you will be told across the planet and maybe help another baby to not suffer what you did.

Linda,

We are going to be making him very special booties, that will be well padded and also have a little bit of counter weight in them.  Toni and another employee of mine are working on the design already.

Will you need to graft skin onto the wounds or will that be tender and open for a long time? Would it heal over at all, or just  become 'harder' and always be extra sensitive or have no feeling in it? The damage looks pretty extensive. You do some awesome work Doc Sandy! Bless you for helping him and for the decision you had to make. It was a difficult choice I'm sure. The one little paw that isn't as pink? Is that one having further problems for him?

The one paw just hadn't had his gentle debridement yet and so wasn't looking as red as the other 3.  All four paws bled nicely again today.  I know that may sound strange to some out there, but bleeding=viability and a chance to heal.  I will be looking to do advancement grafting for him next week or the week after, once the infection is completely under control and he has gained more weight and the swelling (from the frostbite and self trauma) has reduced further.  I will do 2 feet at a time.

Also, Logan will have special heavily padded booties to wear, most likely for life.  We are working on a design at this time.

Logan here....

Hey everyone out there.  Today has been a so so day for me so far.  I'm feeling a little bit punky, but everyone here at the clinic is trying to be very nice to me.  Doc Sandy brings me with her to work and home at night, gosh she just doesn't give a guy any guy time, if you know what I mean.  I heard her talking to her brother about some Peruvian artist and having him do some painting, that's all I know right now about that.

Just wanted to check in with everyone.  Oh, and Doc Sandy says I have obviously been doing well in the eating department since I have gained 2.5# since I got here!!

OOOOOhhhh gotta scamper, their coming.

I was wondering if you got my email.  Doc Sandy had to help me write it, because I couldn't get the spelling all the right way.  My feet also have been very thick and hard to work with.  Doc Sandy has been feeding me all sorts of wonderful things and I am enjoying experimenting.  Unfortuntately Doc Sandy noticed that my tail tip is sloughing tonight (don't know what this means, but she started crying when she saw this).  She has been watching over me non-stop and I wish I could trust her enough to cuddle with her, but just not yet.

Doc Sandy just brought this really cute white-nosed girl to visit for a few minutes and boy is she a hotie.  I think her name is Baby Cheyanne.  She definately helped me to forget my pain.

It will have to surgically be removed tomorrow to make sure that no gangrene sets into this area.  This tissue took days longer to die and start the sloughing than the toes and feet.  It is unfortunate, but the end 1/3 was already missing due to an old injury of some sort or from a tail sucking vice.

Dearest little Logan,

I just now got the email from Doc Sandy about your story, I'm an early morning person and not always on my computer at night. I will be working on your webpage this morning.

My heart aches for everything you are going through, but as long as you have the will to keep going, you have the best help you could ever find. You have shown us that your fate is for a higher purpose and we will not let this suffering you are going through be for nothing. A lot of  people have said to me, why don't you just put him to sleep? I say to them, if you were stuck in the forest in a blizzard for 8 days and  survived, but got frostbite and had to have your fingers and toes and part of your feet cut off and wanted to live, should we then kill you too?

My prayers are with you and my thoughts are constantly for your recovery and a loving home for the rest of your life. My prayers are also with Doc Sandy that she can bear to do the things that she finds she has to do for you that will help you live. And I pray for her heart to have the strength to do what she needs to do.

Thank you Matzo.  I feel the same way and I am a fighter after all.  I gave Doc Sandy a good nip on the arm last night because she was trying to pet me and I am a bit mad at her because I know she is the one making me feel woozy each morning and I hate that feeling.  She does give me lots of great food that I like to eat when no one is looking and she does talk nice and soothing to me; so, maybe I should cut her a break....hmmm maybe not just yet.  She did say that I don't have to go through my debridement tomorrow, but we will be doing it on Friday and Saturday and then skipping Sunday.  Doc Sandy says we can do a 2 on 1 off now that things are looking really good with my short feet.

Gotta shuffle off and pretend to sleep again.

Dear Logan,

I have your webpage started and it is online even as we speak. I will be adding more info to it such as the fund addresses and   pictures of your little feet on a separate page for those who can handle seeing the damage that was your fate.

You can see what is there so far at http://www.doryandtheorphans.com/logan

I will also be creating a blog for your messages you send to the group here so everyone can keep up on your progress. There are many people watching your experience and want to know how you are doing.

Hey Hey Hey, its Logan the Fierce One again

Hi all of you out there praying for me and sending good thoughts my way.  Thank you for all of them.  I can feel it.

Today I had to have some more of my tail removed because it went ahead and died from the frostbite, but I don't need it, I'm not out trying to protect myself anymore and it was only a little bit more.  Doc Sandy says my feet are coming along nicely and we are going to give me a morning without feeling woozy tomorrow, YEAH!!!  She says we will go to a 2 on and 1 off schedule as long as I continue to heal and no new signs of gangrene show up.  Boy I hope not, that hurt like _ _ _ _ and it smelled really bad too.....   My nose is almost completely healed and that feels much better too.

I'm trying to make the Doc feel guilty by not eating in front of her right now, but waiting until she is not around and eating like crazy.  she gave me some really good roast garlic chicken last night that was great but let me tell you the pomegranate juice was way too sour, I don't know how she can drink that stuff.

ooooohhh here come the girls, I have to lay down again and "rest".  Little do they know all the plans for sneak attacks I do while I am "sleeping"

Logan the Fierce One signing off for now.
